All work and no play…

All work and no play…

Yesterday I took a little time out from Photography Work to have a little Photography Play.  Jo and I decided to go to Hatchet Pond in the New Forest and we came across a very obliging swan.  As always when the sun is going down you get a few photographers.  While they were busy photographing the sunset I thought the clouds were way more interesting.  A touch of split toning during the editing process brings out the beautiful shapes.

I live in a great place.

I live in a great place.

I am so lucky to live here in the New Forest.  When you get to know the place and the seasons you have great opportunities to play with your camera.  Clearly other people love the place too because some of my local photos continue to do well in worldwide competitions.

This photo of the pine trees on Aldridge Heath came 5th in a “Woodland” themed competition.

And this photo of 4 Red Deer Stags taken at dawn in August when the antlers were covered in lovely velvet is one of my more successful images.  In this case it came 4th in “Wild Deer”.

I have also sold both these images as impressive large acrylic mounted prints.  Acrylic mounted prints look particularly good in more modern homes whilst canvasses do better in traditional cottages.

I am so lucky to be able to regularly find lovely animals like this near to where I live.  I have been photographing red deer for a number of years and have known this group of stags for around 8 years.  There now seems to only be 3 but they are looking very strong and healthy this year.

This photo of Vincent has just been given “Front Page Image” status on PurplePort.  In many ways it follows on from my image Top Dog which was also given FPI status but Downward Dog came first.  When Vincent wants to play he always adopts the position of Downward Dog so I simply had to do a photo of him reading a book on Pilates for dogs.  Maybe I should do a series.  I’m working with a bodybuilder later today so maybe in the next one Vincent will be visiting the gym.

This was a composite of 6 images plus some extra colouring.

Another Front Page Image!

Another Front Page Image!

After my success a couple of days ago I now have another Front Page Image on PurplePort.  This photo called “Getting Carried Away” was great fun to do and it’s something I can provide as part of my Family Photography.  If you are interested get in touch and let’s talk about your ideas or take a look at my Family Portrait Page  Always start with the thought that anything is possible.
