I am so lucky to live here in the New Forest. When you get to know the place and the seasons you have great opportunities to play with your camera. Clearly other people love the place too because some of my local photos continue to do well in worldwide competitions.
This photo of the pine trees on Aldridge Heath came 5th in a “Woodland” themed competition.
And this photo of 4 Red Deer Stags taken at dawn in August when the antlers were covered in lovely velvet is one of my more successful images. In this case it came 4th in “Wild Deer”.
I have also sold both these images as impressive large acrylic mounted prints. Acrylic mounted prints look particularly good in more modern homes whilst canvasses do better in traditional cottages.

I am so lucky to be able to regularly find lovely animals like this near to where I live. I have been photographing red deer for a number of years and have known this group of stags for around 8 years. There now seems to only be 3 but they are looking very strong and healthy this year.

When Joanne and I visited Thailand recently we went to watch some Thai Boxing.
It started with a junior match and then steadily built up to the star fight of the evening via different categories and a ladies bout. Oddly after the senior fight they finished with a couple of 5 year olds.

Whenever I get good light and calm conditions I try to get down to Pennington Marshes, Lymington which is here in the New Forest National Park. Although I have always been interested in birds, for me, it’s more about the photography rather than ticking a bird list. Having said that some of the rarer birds create more captivating images. Technique is very important and I continue to experiment there but it’s all about the light and learning about your subject. Hope you like the photos.
If you would like to find out a bit more I do offer personal tuition or small workshops or even simple guide services.
